Wound care

What falls under the scope of wound management?
The area of wound management includes all the tools you need to properly care for a wound. From ES compresses, bandages, wound dressings to cellulose swabs, you can buy everything you need for wound disinfection and wound care cheaply at Altruan.de. The DermaPlast® soft wound plasters from Hartmann, for example, are ideal for closing wounds after they have been disinfected. In addition to wound disinfection, a plaster also protects the wound from dirt or bacteria entering the wound.
Wound plasters and wound suture strips
A plaster is best suited for small cuts or abrasions. Most wound plasters come in one long piece which you can then cut to suit your needs. The integrated absorbent wound pads in the middle of plasters ensure that no secretion can escape and also offer protection against painful contact with the wound.
Wound suture strips are suitable for the atraumatic closure of small wounds and surgical incisions in primary healing wounds. They are also used to relieve strain on the edges of wounds and stabilize fresh scars. When applying, ensure dry and clean skin.
Wound dressings to prevent pain and itching
Wound dressings are there to prevent secretions from escaping without drying out the wound, as this quickly leads to pain and itching for the patient. You also prevent the wound from being contaminated by lint from the bandage or from it sticking to the wound and therefore being painful to remove.
Wound dressings are available for different areas of application.
Hartmann's Grassolind® ointment compresses are used for large abrasions and lacerations, primarily to keep the wound surfaces and edges supple.
However, wound dressings are also increasingly being used for trauma wounds, chronic wounds and post-surgical wounds. The moist surface of wound dressings is intended to promote wound healing and prevent the wound from drying out or becoming blocked.
Infection despite disinfection - what now?
Now it is important to treat the wound daily. This means you have to clean the wound regularly, rinse it and change the bandage or plaster.
If you have the feeling that the healing process is not happening at all or the pain is continuously increasing, you should consult a doctor immediately. If this is an advanced infection or an emergency, you can contact patient service around the clock on 116117 (without area code). This will first give you information about your current options and, if necessary, refer you to the medical on-call service.
Step by step instructions for caring for a wound
Make the wound bleed
With the blood flow, the body initially cleanses itself. This is, so to speak, the body's own cleansing process. That's why it's important to let the wound bleed a little first so that the germs that have already entered can be flushed out of the wound.
Hand disinfection
There are also bacteria and germs on your hands. Since these should ideally not get into the wound, you must disinfect your own hands before disinfecting the wound. If you want to disinfect another person's wounds, we also recommend using disposable gloves. The Meditrade Vinyl 2000PF disposable glove, for example, is suitable for wound care on other people; it is latex-free and is ideal for the medical sector thanks to its certifications.
Rinse wound well with water
The body's own cleaning process cannot remove all bacteria, germs or contaminants. In any case, you should rinse your wound with clear, cold to lukewarm water before disinfecting the wound. It is important to note that you should use a gentle stream of water, as too much pressure could make your wound worse.
If necessary, you may also want to clean your wound with a saline solution, as salt has a disinfecting effect. Below you can see how you can easily make your own saline solution for wound careVideo.
Cleaning the wound with swabs
If you cannot remove all of the visible dirt by rinsing the wound with clear water, you should use cellulose swabs, gauze swabs or gauze swabs. With the help of swabs you can carefully and painlessly remove the last remaining visible dirt. A distinction is made between sterile and non-sterile swabs. When disinfecting wounds at home, non-sterile swabs are completely sufficient.
Remove foreign bodies if present
If there is a foreign body in the wound that you can remove yourself without risk, you can try to remove it with blunt tweezers. When using tweezers, it is also important to be careful with them as you do not want to cause additional damage to your wound. If you are not sure whether you have completely removed the foreign body or you still have pain after disinfecting the wound, you should definitely see a doctor.
wound disinfection
A wound disinfectant should not be applied to the wound with pressure. We therefore recommend using a wound disinfectant spray to finally protect your wound from microorganisms and new pathogens. After using a wound disinfectant spray, a wound gel can help to form an additional protective wound layer. When using a wound disinfectant spray, the disposable time of the respective products must be taken into account. These must always be stated by the manufacturer and are usually on the packaging insert or on the spray itself.
With the combination of the Schülke octenisept® wound disinfectant spray and the matching wound gel, you are well equipped when it comes to wound disinfection and wound care.
Protect the wound with a plaster or bandage
For smaller wounds, it is sufficient to apply a plaster to provide additional protection to an open wound. For larger wounds, you should apply a bandage or compress to close the wound.
